FAQ

Q1:How to install the R4i SDHC card?

A1 :P lease refer to the step-by-step setup guide here to install your r4i SDHC card.

Q2:Where to download the latest driver of R4i SDHC card?

A2:Please download the latest driver of R4i SDHC card from here by clicking the software’s name or from the official website (www.r4i-sdhc.com).

Q3:Why do I get the error message “Loading…Fake card! Please return to retailer” with the website (www.r4i-sdhc.com)and How to fix it?

A3: If your DS is showing this error message, it is due to kernel/driver problem. Once the correct kernel/driver is copied onto the microSD, the issue will be resolved immediately. For R4i SDHC, the driver and the complete setup guide are available from here.

Q4: Why do I get the error message Loading… System date error! Please check NDS system date.” How to fix it?

A4: It might be caused by any one of the following:

  • The DS console is running out of battery.
  • Transferring a .SAV file from a different console who perhaps has a different date on their DS.
  • Attempting to activate cheats in certain applications.

The above problem can solved quite quickly with a little trick by changing the system date of the DS console to an earlier date such as that in the 2009.

Q5: Why do I get the error message Menu? How do I fix it?

A5: If your DS is showing this error message, it means that the kernel/driver is missing on the microSD memory card inserted in the flashcart. Once the correct kernel/driver is copied onto the microSD, the issue will be resolved immediately.  For R4i SDHC, the driver and the complete setup guide are available from here.

Q6: Why does the console freeze when I click the homebrew game icon? What should I do?

A6: Please restart your console. Generally, when you successfully setup the card, you will see the screen with the file MOONSHL2.NDS" and your own data, such as homebrew games. Please just click the homebrew games' name here to enjoy it. The reason why you could not start the homebrew game is that you click the homebrew game inside the MOONSHL2.NDS where you can do the system setting, such as changing the skin and language but not for homebrew games.

Q7: Why do I get the message There is no card inserted in the DS Game Card Slot even though I do insert the r4i SDHC card in it?

A7: There is many reasons for this message, which can range from dirt / dust on the micro-SD card, corrupt micro-SD data, a faulty r4i SDHC card / micro-SD connector, or the more serious and worrying misalignment of the DS slot 1 connectors.

  • The dirt/dust problem on the micro-SD card can be easily solved by giving the micro-SD a good blow or two.

  • A corrupt micro-SD card’s data can be easily fixed by reformatting it to FAT16 or FAT32.

  • Very rarely, a DS adapter can work on one DS but fail to work on another and the failed adapter will display this message. In this rare circumstance, a tiny imperfection in the DS and the DS card may sometimes be great enough that they just about misalign and are unable to communicate with each other. Basically, the metal contacts don’t touch each other well enough. This only happens in less than 1% of cases, though, and it tends to be with old DS’s or well-used DS Lites.

  • However,if the DS fails with every DS card, then there is a definite problem with the SLOT 1 connector of the DS. If the DS is still under warranty, it should be exchanged immediately for a new one. If your DS is out of warranty, it is also possible to realign the connector pins in the SLOT 1 of the DS yourself(WARNING: Doing this yourself will void the warranty). You would need to very carefully peer into the slot where cartridges normally go, and use some thin, fine tools to re-align any bent pins in the SLOT 1 connector.

  • A faulty R4i SDHC card and micro-SD should be exchanged with the retailer only e-mail them after the first four options don’t appear to have worked, though, because about 99% of the time one of those will fix it.

Q8:For my DS Lite, I get the message “There is no DS card inserted” on the top line and “There is no game pak inserted” on the bottom line”. But I do insert the r4i SDHC card in it. What’s wrong?

A9:In this case, the “There is no game pak inserted” is a pretty standard message as it relates to the slot 2 of the DS which is empty – DS cards/adapters do not use that slot these days.

However, the “There is no DS card inserted” message is worrying. There is many reasons for this message, which can range from dirt / dust on the micro-SD card, corrupt micro-SD data, a faulty r4i SDHCard / micro-SD connector, or the more serious and worrying misalignment of the DS slot 1 connectors.

  • The dirt/dust problem on the micro-SD card can be easily solved by giving the micro-SD a good blow or two. A corrupt micro-SD card’s data can be easily fixed by reformatting it to FAT16 or FAT32.

  • load errcode=-1
  • load errcode=-8

Q11:Stuck at the “NO CARD” screen after loading DSi.

A11: SD Card not found. Please check whether SD card was insert properly or not into the flash card. Otherwise SD card could be fault.

Q13:Why do I get this error message “Error Loading Moonshell not found!”

A13:Without “moonshl2”, there is no problem in playing games, video or music. However, you can’t even enter the “Multimedia”. It’s dead and the upper screen shows an error message at the upper left:

 “Error Loading Moonshell not found!”

Please note that by doing this, you can just have a quick look at what files you have. But you cannot open the files.

Q15: How to return back to the firmware/kernel during playing game?

A15: Press at the keys (left + right + up + down + X + Y + B + A + L + R) during playing games.

Q16:How to enable game cheating?

A16:

  • First highlight the NDS ROM you want to apply the cheats to.
  • Second press the B button to go into the cheats options menu and checkmark each cheat you want to enable.
    http://www.r4i-sdhc.com/gameking.jpg
Third turn the cheats on for that ROM by clicking the cheat on/off button. Last you'll notice the wrench icon will be yellow which indicates cheats are on. You have to press “x” or “B” to view the cheats and to turn it on don’t forget to press the save button when the cheat is on the grey key turns gold Gold= ON Gray= OFF Please update the “usrcheat.dat” from the ‐SDHC official web site www.r4i-sdhc.com to support cheat function of new games.

Q17: How to return back to the firmware/kernel from Moonshell (multimedia player)?

A17: Press “start” button, and select the “Return to the firmware” from the menu.

Q18:How to change the R4i SDHC themes and skins?

A18:

Step 1: The first thing you need to do is to download some R4i SDHC themes or skins from some online websites which afford you with various kinds of themes and skins, such as http://www.R4i-SDHC.com.

Step 2: Now that you have downloaded some favorite themes and skins online, the next thing you need to do is to compress and copy it to the folder R4i / Menu / skin on the microSD memory card .

Step 3: Please turn on the NSDI/NDSL switch to the setting mode (most right button) on the Menu to configure and select skins / themes setting. There will be a file named color.ini” which locates at the skin/themes folder, and you can use it to manually customize the skin/themes setting.

Q19: R4i is running homebrew slowly.

A19: Data loading from microSD works the same as that in your PC. If the disk of the PC is fragmented, it takes longer for the application to load. If the disk is full or almost full, the loading speed is also significantly affected. There are two options to go around the problem:

  • Run Disk Defragmentation (Right click the Removal Disk under My Computer, Choose Properties, Choose Tool & Run the Disk Defragmentation programme from there).
  • If option 1 is not veryful, back up all the data on the microSD and do a FULL format of the microSD using FAT32 format.

The above will normally solve all the slow loading problem with the microSD.
